Batticaloa - Building for the Future
In January 2013, we visited the Vocational Training Centre and orphanage at St John's in Batticaloa. As well as delivering a leadership programme for members of Diakonia, an NGO and local church and business managers, we arranged for a young Cambridge architect, Ed Barsley, to deliver a presentation on flood control to the local government officials. Both initiatives were well received and could led to more work being done by SAOK in these two disciplines.
The Sports Academy
It is one of our dreams, to establish a sports and cricket academy here at St Johns. As well as providing coaching and playing opportunities for the children, it could become a centre for the community - playing with and against each other in a small league in this Batticaloa region.

The VTC
We are looking at ways of supporting the VTC as a centre for training and development across the region. In particular, the VTC are looking to establish a craft and design centre for the womens' groups of the east and north.
